NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Another weekend, another successful outing for the Lipscomb track and field squad is added to the books.
After only traveling a few minutes from home to compete at the TSU Invite, the Bisons came back to campus with a number of first place finishes in tow.
"We had a good day at TSU,” Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor said. “It would have been easy for it to be a let-down week; however, I didn't feel that happened at all. The team continued to step up and compete hard.”
Senior April Terry won the women’s weight throw for the second meet in a row. She posted a school record throw of 17.82m. Terry also finished second place in the women’s shot put.
"I think we got something like ten event wins in the NCAA Division 1 scoring,” Taylor said.
Kenny Smith and Brian Gentry took home first and second place in the 400m dash with times of 50.71 and 51.22 seconds respectively.
Sydney Sloan finished first overall in women’s pole vault with a mark of 3.05m. Grayson Webber’s throw of 13.33m earned first place in the men’s weight throw.
Kacey Kemper finished with the best time (2:16.06) in the women’s 800m run.
The women’s distance runners provided fireworks as usual with a dominating performance.
"Women's distance was again a highlight, with wins in all three distance races, including finishing 1-3 in the mile and 1-5 in the 5000m,” Taylor said.
Madi Talbert, Barbara Lee Ball and Sally Larson filled the top three spots in the women’s mile run after posting times of 5:00.89, 5:01.05 and 5:03.47. In the women’s 5000m run, Kayla Montgomery (18:02.39), Meredith Kilburn (18:26.25), Katie Grace Dean (18:41.94), Avery Franklin (18:58.47) and Kelsey Ibarra (19:18.87) gave Lipscomb spots one through five.
"The indoor season is flying by,” Taylor said. “We have just two more regular meets left before the conference championships. We are on the right progression to keep getting better, both as we finish the indoor season, and more importantly, as we move through the outdoor season."
The Bisons will be back in action Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7 in Carbondale, Illinois at the Southern Illinois Invite.
