Hibbard earns A-Sun weekly honor after first outdoor meet

MACON, Ga. - Karly Hibbard was awarded the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors after a solid showing in the Lipscomb-Belmont Dual.

In her first-career outdoor meet, Hibbard stepped up against Lipscomb's crosstown rivals. She competed in three events, taking home first in the javelin (36.84m), second in the shot put (9.70m) and third in the discus (28.87m). She leads the A-Sun in the javelin by over five meters.

"Hibbard had a solid first outing, especially in the Javelin which is her main event,” Lipscomb track and field assistant coach for jumps and throw Luke Syverson said, “She has been excited and waiting for outdoor all year because of it.

"While not her personal record in any of the events, it gave her a chance to see where she is at and what we need to work on going forward. She has big goals for her freshman year, so this was a good starting point. She is a hard worker and has a lot of potential in both the shot put and javelin."

The Lipscomb track and field squad will be back in action this weekend with the Alabama Relays.
