BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Lipscomb track and Field squad competed in a pair of meets in Alabama this weekend as they took on the Samford Invitational on Friday and the Samford Open on both Friday and Saturday.
The Bisons grabbed a pair of wins in men’s distance, with freshman Jonathan Schwind earning a win for the second weekend in a row.
Schwind continued the hot start to his Lipscomb track career as he followed up his win in the mile at Vanderbilt last weekend with a win in the 800m at Samford. He notched a time of 1:52.94 to take first place.
Junior Ryan Speer placed first in the mile to give the Bisons a second win. He finished with a time of 4:13.42.
In the 1000m, sophomore Robert Rupp placed third with a time of 2:33.45.
At the Invite on Friday, the Purple and Gold grabbed several top-five spots.
The Lady Bisons dominated the mile as freshman Lauren Flynt (5:11.09) and senior Katie Sperry (5:13.53), while freshman Kayla Rudie (5:16.90), junior Hannah Owens (5:19.22), and sophomore Brooke Kingma (5:19.55) finished sixth, seventh, and eighth.
In the 3000m, sophomore Courtney Brenner finished second with a time of 9:52.48, and junior Clare Losito placed ninth with a 10:31.46 mark.
On the men’s side of the 3000m, sophomores Zach Israel (8:27.39), Chase Hampton (8:37.85), and Brody Beiler (8:41.32) placed second, fourth, and fifth for another Bison-heavy top group.
Freshman Grant Mason placed fourth and eighth in the 60m and 200m with times of 6.95 second and 22.28 seconds, respectively.
In the same two events, sophomore Ahmed Amaar finished sixth and fifth with marks of 6.97 seconds and 22.18 seconds, respectively. Freshman Jonathan Imes took 11th in the 200m with a 22.41-second finish.
In the long jump, freshman Jada Bogle landed in eighth with a 4.99m leap.
The Bisons will be back on the track on Jan. 26th and 27th at the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Virginia.
