Brenner win paces strong track and field showing at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lipscomb track and field squad competed at the Liberty Kickoff in Virginia over the weekend, securing an individual win and several top-five finishes.

Sophomore Courtney Brennenr grabbed first place in the 3000m with a time of 9:49.89 for the Purple and Gold’s highest finish of the meet. Junior Julia Fritz placed second in the same race with a 9:55.28 mark.

In the women’s 5000m, Lipscomb placed two in the top-five as senior Katie Sperry (18:00.72) took second and freshman Lindsay Marriott (18:33.56) finished fifth.

Junior Ryan Speer placed fifth in the 1000m with a 2:24.32 time, while freshman Jonathan Schwind placed 10th in a time of 2:26.90.

Freshman Pari Manoogian (2:22.88) and junior Clare Losito (5:13.77) grabbed a pair of 11th-place finishes in the 800m and the mile, respectively.

On the men’s side of the 800m, sophomore Brody Beiler took 12th in the time of 1:56.67. And in the men’s 3000m, sophomore Robert Rupp (8:53.15) and senior Mitch Zabka (9:01.73) placed 14th and 16th.

In the men’s sprinting events, freshmen Jonathan Imes and Grant Mason came through as Imes placed ninth in the 400m in 49.79 seconds, while Mason finished 15th in the 200m in 22.05 seconds.

The Bisons will be back on the track on Feb. 2 at the Don DeNoon Invite in Carbondale, Illinois.
