LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lipscomb track and field squad closed out the ASUN Championships on a strong note on Saturday, snagging several wins, All-Conference spots, and conference records in the process.
Freshman Jonathan Schwind continued his exceptional first season in the Purple and Gold by smashing the ASUN indoor record in route to winning the mile with a time of 4:08.15. Sophomore Chase Hampton also landed on the podium, placing third in 4:11.89.
Junior Ryan Speer also smashed a conference indoor record. Speer placed first in the 800m with a blazing time of 1:50.97. Schwind earned his third podium spot of the weekend by finishing second behind Speer in 1:52.46.
Sophomore Courtney Brenner won first place in the women’s 5000m with a stellar time of 16:50.58. Junior Hannah Owens came in fourth in 17:55.50.
Lipscomb also won the men’s 4x400m. Sophomore Randolph Wilkerson, freshman Jonathan Imes, Schwind, and Speer combined for a time of 3:17.39.
Imes won the individual 400m with a time of 48.53 seconds to win the conference crown.
In the men’s 200m, freshman Grant Mason (21.91 seconds) and Imes (21.93) came in fourth and fifth, while sophomore Ahmed Amaar (22.12) placed sixth.
Freshman Jacob Snyder grabbed a surprising third place in the high jump with a leap of 1.86m in his college debut performance in the event.
Sophomore Zach Israel earned second in the men’s 5000m with a time of 14:53.65. Sophomores Chase Hampton (15:09.26) and William Kachman (15:11.86) grabbed fifth and sixth.
In the women’s mile run, senior Katie Sperry (5:10.92), junior Clare Losito (5:14.68), and freshman Kayla Rudie (5:15.65) finished consecutively in fourth, fifth, and sixth.
Overall, the men finished second with 111 points, making for their highest finish ever and tying their highest point total ever. The women placed fourth overall with 43 points.
