Track and field kicks off outdoor season at Rhodes Invite

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lipscomb track and field squad kicked off the 2018 outdoor campaign with a trip to Memphis for the Rhodes Invite on Friday and Saturday.

The Bisons grabbed a win and several top-10 finishes to pick back up right where they left off during the indoor season.

Wayne Newman started off his 2018 track campaign with a win in the 110m hurdles thanks to a time of 13.96 seconds. The graduate student sat out the indoor season and will suit up in the purple and gold for one more outdoor season.

Newman also finished second in the long jump, a new event for the Arizona native, with a leap of 6.97m. In the 200m, Newman grabbed eighth with a 21.74-seconds mark.

In the women’s 5000m, Lipscomb earned five of the top nine positions: senior Katie Sperry in third (17:17.01), junior Brooke Kingma in fifth (17:33.34), freshman Kayla Rudie in seventh (17:43.05), senior Avery Franklin in eighth (17:47.98), and junior Hannah Owens in ninth (17:52.43). 

In the men’s 5000m, freshman Silas Griffith placed second with a time of 14:52.04, while sophomore Owen Glogovsky finished ninth with a 15:13.49 mark.

In the women’s mile, junior Clare Losito (5:11.11) placed fifth, senior Kinzie Icayan (5:23.56) placed eighth, and freshman Pari Manoogian (5:25.19) finished ninth.

In the men’s mile, sophomore William Kachman (4:28.01) earned 11th.

Freshman Jacob Snyder joined Newman in the 110m hurdles placing 10th with a time of 15.99 seconds. Snyder also finished 10th in the 400m hurdles in 58.04 seconds.

In the men’s 400m, freshman Jonathan Imes grabbed second in 48.88 seconds. Imes also placed seventh in the 200m with a time of 21.65 seconds.

Teanna Jules earned another top-10 spot for the Lipscomb freshman sprinters finishing 10th in the women’s 100m in 12.45 seconds.

Sophomore Ahmed Amaar finished seventh in the men’s 100m with a time of 10.83 seconds. Amaar also grabbed ninth in the 200m in 21.94 seconds.

Freshman Friederik Matthes placed sixth in the 200m with a 25.26 seconds mark.

Freshman Jada Bogle took third in the triple jump with an 11.05m mark and placed 10th in the long jump with a leap of 5.11m.
