Baseball Continues Home Stand with Series Versus Xavier

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb baseball team returns to the diamond this weekend with a three-game series versus Xavier at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium.

The Bisons (4-2) saw two games of the SAF Dirt Classic get cancelled last weekend, but ended up with two wins in three games for the round-robin tournament with victories over Toledo and Western Michigan.

Lipscomb was able to score double-digit runs in both contests winning 12-6 over Toledo and 13-5 over Western Michigan. Tevin Symonette had a solid day at the plate versus Toledo finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI and scoring two runs, while Chris Bashlor showed off his stuff in the win over Western Michigan finishing 3-for-5 at the dish with three RBI and scoring twice.

Live stats will be available for all three games. All the games will be streamed on Facebook Live via the Lipscomb Baseball page.

  • The Musketeers are coming off an upset victory over No. 8 Louisville on Tuesday. Xavier needed a 10th inning to pull off the upset, but came away with a 5-4 victory.
  • The Musketeers are off to a 2-5 record to start the 2019 season and finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 20-35 and did not receive a NCAA tournament bid for the first time in four seasons.
  • Zwack is the reigning Big East pitcher of the week after picking up the win in his outing versus Samford last Saturday. The sophomore went 5.1 innings giving up one earned run, seven hits and stiking out six batters. Over 9.1 innings on the season Zwack has an ERA of just 1.93.
  • Xavier has four players hitting over .300 on the season led by Jack Housinger at .471. Behind Housinger is Jake Shepski with a .400 hitting clip. Shepski is also tied for the team lead in RBI with seven.

  • Freshman Tyler Guilfoil is the reigning ASUN pitcher of the week behind his impressive performances on the mound last week. Guilfoil picked up his first career win in his collegiate debut throwing five shutout innings with nine strikeouts in a 3-1 victory over Western Kentucky.
  • The freshman also picked up his first collegiate save in a 13-5 win over Western Michigan giving up just one hit over four innings and striking out six batters.
  • Bashlor leads the Bisons at the plate in average, hits, home runs and RBI. His hitting clip of .500 is tied for the third best mark in the ASUN, while his 11 RBI's is the most.
  • Sophomore Maddux Houghton is off to a hot start at the plate hitting at a clip of .429 with five RBI.
  • Kachmar will be looking to pick up his third win of the season, which would match his win total from 2018. So far the senior is 2-0 with an ERA of 4.09 and 12 strikeouts over 11 innings of work.

The Bisons will hit the road for the first time this season, as they will take on Austin Peay for a midweek matchup on Tuesday March 5. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
