LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lipscomb baseball team fell in its series finale at Liberty on Mothers Day and lost 11-0.
After nearly an hour long rain delay to start the game, the Bisons (27-23, 11-10 ASUN) and Flames (35-16, 14-7 ASUN) got underway in a pivotal conference series rubber match, which could have conference tournament seeding implications.
Lipscomb fell behind early and never gained any momentum as Liberty’s starter, Noah Skirrow, had the Bisons bats number. Skirrow finished the day with 7.0 innings, allowed three hits, struck out seven and didn’t give up a run.
The Flames jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and ran away it from there. Cam Locklear drove a double down the left field line to score Gray Betts, who reached base by drawing a leadoff walk against Lipscomb starter Joshua Colon.
Liberty scored its second run of the game in the following inning on a single up the middle by Ben Highfill after Will Wagner sent a double into the gap in left center field.
The Flames took complete control of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Tyler Galazin sent a three-run homer over the leftfield wall to make it 5-0.
Liberty continued to add to its lead and scored two runs each in the sixth, seventh and eighth making it 11-0.
The Purple and Gold made its biggest threat in the top of the sixth. The Bisons loaded the bases with two outs, but couldn’t bring any runs home as Maddux Houghton grounded out to third to end the threat.
