NASHVILLE – Lipscomb senior Jacob Poyner and sophomore Courtney Brenner have been voted to the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District Track/Cross Country Team, as announced by CoSIDA on Tuesday.
The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom.
Both Brenner and Poyner were named to the District 3 First Team, which encompasses schools from North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with the Academic All-America teams announced in June.
Poyner earned his first CoSIDA honor after a season which saw him pull a rare double in cross country: he won the ASUN individual title and was named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
As an Exercise Science major, the senior compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA in the classroom, while winning three ASUN Runner of the Week awards on the field.
Brenner also earned her first-ever CoSIDA honor after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Dietetics major.
The sophomore won the ASUN Championship in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in the 5000m, qualified for the NCAA East Region Prelims in the 10,000m, won five Runner of the Week awards between track and cross country, and was named All-Academic for all three seasons.
This is the first time Lipscomb has received the honor for men’s cross country, and the third time for a male XC/TF athlete overall. This is the 10th honor for a women’s track athlete.
