Cross country to kick off season at Belmont Opener

NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb cross country squad is set to kick off their season on Friday with the Belmont Opener. 

The meet will take place at Percy Warner Park, with the men racing at 5 p.m. and the women’s race following at 5:30. 

The Bisons will be sending 14 runners to the meet, including five freshmen making their Purple and Gold debut: Brady Johnson, Ronald Kigen, Lewis Ngwemya, Brian Risse, and Jason Risse.

Also running at the meet will be Josh Hinkle, Nathan Morgan, Benjamin Underwood, Ayse Allison, Cassie Harasts, Haley Humphrey, Pari Manoogian, Lindsey Marriott, and Jordan Stiewig.

Teams competing on Friday include: Austin Peay, Belmont, Evansville, Murray State, Tennesse State, and Vanderbilt. 

The Purple and Gold enter the season with high expectations once again. The women’s squad, winners of seven of the past eight ASUN titles, were voted the top team in the ASUN Preseason Poll and slotted in at eighth in the USTFCCCA Southeast Regional Poll.

The men, winners of four of the past six ASUN crowns, were picked third in the conference preseason poll and 15th in the Southeast Regional Poll.
