Bisons tennis falls 6-1 to Georgia State
The Bisons’ record slipped to 1-2 after losing 6-1 to Georgia State on Friday night.

Freshman transfer from Auburn, Oliver Strecker, was the only Bison to post a win in the Bisons’ third match of the season.

Although they could not pull out the win, men’s assistant coach Mike Sherman said there has been improvement throughout each of the matches.

"The men played tough out there, but in the end, Georgia State played better,” Sherman said. “The guys are making better decisions out on the court. If they can keep growing in their confidence, matches like this will be won."

Georgia State swept the Bisons in doubles putting Lipscomb at an early 1-0 deficit.

Senior Joe McArdle and freshman Oliver Strecker came up just short of a victory at the No. 1 doubles spot, falling to Brean Badger and Victor Valenta in a tiebreaker, 8-7(4).

At No. 2, sophomores Colby Shaw and Tanner Brown were defeated by Thomas Cook and Vincent Verpeaux 8-3, while freshman David Salazar and senior Mario Hernandez posted similar results at No. 3, losing 8-4 to Georgia State’s Juan Pablo Guitierrez and Lucas Santana.

Strecker posted the Bisons’ only win at the No. 1 singles spot to tie the score up at 1-1, defeating Valenta 6-3, 7-6(3).

McArdle fell at the No. 2 spot to Georgia State’s Badger 6-4, 6-0. At No. 3, Hernandez was defeated by Cook 6-2, 6-4.

Salazar played a solid match at No. 4, but came up short in the end, falling to Guitierrez in a tight three-setter, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.

At No. 5, Shaw fell 6-4, 6-3 to Verpeaux, while Brown was defeated at No. 6 6-1, 7-6(2) to Santana.

The Bisons are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 2nd at 5 p.m. when they travel to Clarksville, Tenn., to face Austin Peay University.
