Bisons win second A-Sun match in a row
It was a winning weekend for the Bisons. After opening conference play with a win over Mercer on Friday, the Bisons picked up their second A-Sun win on Saturday, defeating Kennesaw State 5-2.

The back-to-back wins awarded the Bisons one more A-Sun victory than they received all of the 2009-2010 season. With the wins, the Bisons’ record advanced to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

"The men finished the weekend with another great conference win,” men’s assistant coach Mike Sherman said. “After a grueling match against Mercer Friday, they were still able to come out ready to go. They have put in a lot of hard work to get to this point, and Coach (Andrew) Harris and I are extremely proud of them.”

The Bisons fell behind early after losing the doubles point 2-1.

Freshman Oliver Strecker and senior Joe McArdle picked up the Bisons only doubles win at No. 1 with an 8-3 victory over Gokalp Ozdemic and Gianni Kubin.

At No. 2, sophomore Colby Shaw and freshman Miguel Cortez fell to Elliot Kahler and Simon Janik 8-4, while freshman David Salazar and sophomore Tanner Brown were defeated at No. 3 by Tyler Mills and Michael Langel 8-6.

The Bisons headed into singles play with a 1-0 deficit but went on to win five of their six singles matches to post th3 5-2 won over the Owls.

Strecker posted an easy win at No. 1, defeating Janik 6-1, 6-0, while junior Chad Pierron came back after losing the first set in a tiebreaker to easily defeat Mills in the next two sets, winning 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.

At No. 3, Salazar rolled past Kubin 6-0, 6-4, and Brown pulled out the close victory over Ozdemir 7-5, 7-6(4) at No. 4. Cortez defeated Kahler at No. 5 6-0, 6-4.

The Bisons lone singles defeat came at No. 6. After winning the first set, Shaw fell to Kennesaw State’s Ryan Spencer in a tiebreaker acting as the third set 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Undefeated thus far in conference play, the Bisons will travel and take on ETSU next on Saturday, March 12 at 1 p.m.
