Men's Tennis falls 5-2 against Kennesaw State

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb men’s tennis dropped its first ASUN Conference match of the season, 5-2, to Kennesaw State in Nashville on Thursday.

The Bisons fall to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in league play, while KSU improved to 7-9, 1-1.

Kennesaw State earned the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Top pairing of Victor Chaw and Pablo Caffarena won the lone doubles match, 6-3, for the Bisons.

In singles play, it was Chaw and Caffarena again as both were lights out.

On the top line, Chaw quickly and easily disposed of KSU’s No. 1 Fermin Calvo Barcelo 6-0, 6-1. Chaw improved to 7-6 on the year in singles.

“Victor had arguably his best performance I’ve seen in a while, and it was over a great player too,” Hernandez said. “I would love to give him credit because he played really well.”

Over on court two, Caffarena knocked off Lucas deTorres after the Owl defaulted with injury. Caffarena was leading the match 7-5, 3-2 when it was called.

“Today’s match was not our best performance,” head coach Geoff Hernandez said. “Our one and two in Victor and Pablo played great. The rest of the team didn’t step up.

“We had a sickness, so that doesn’t help, but we want the team to take the chance when they have them.”

Lipscomb hits the road for a 3 p.m. Saturday match at Liberty. The Bisons will take on the Flames in their first match since joining the ASUN.
