Track and field grabs several podium spots on ASUN day one

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lipscomb track and field squad got off to a strong start at the ASUN Indoor Championships on Friday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

The men’s distance medley relay team led the way for the Bisons, earning first place with a school-record time of 10:05.07.

Sophomore Brody Beiler, juniors Austin Ray and Ryan Speer, and freshman Jonathan Schwind helped the Bisons blaze through for the win.

In the women’s 3000m, sophomore Courtney Brenner finished second with a 9:40.93 mark. Senior Katie Sperry (10:21.12) and sophomore Brooke Kingma(10:27.28) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the same event for the men, sophomore Zach Israel earned second with a time of 8:29.35. Sophomore Chase Hampton (8:30.45), freshman Silas Griffith (8:38.13), and sophomore Owen Glogovsky (8:38.26), grabbed fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Senior Kade Hinkle finished sixth in the shot put with a 12.32m throw.

Freshman Grant Mason and Jacob Snyder ran personal-record times in their respective heats.

Mason in 6.90 seconds in the men’s 60m prelims, while Snyder ran a time of 8.64 seconds in the 60 hurdles prelims.

The Bisons will be back on the track Saturday morning starting at 8:30, with the meet’s final event beginning at 4 p.m.
