Track & field grabs four podium spots at day one of ASUN Indoor Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Lipscomb track and field squad started off the weekend strong with day one of the ASUN Indoor Championships at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. 

Senior Courtney Brenner defended her crown in the 3000m in impressive fashion, setting an ASUN Championship record and a school indoor record with a time of 9:32.23. 

Junior Lauren Flynt joined her on the podium, taking second place with a personal record time of 9:37.20. Sophomore Grace Oetting (10:12.52) also competed in the event, finishing in 10th. 

The Bisons also did well in the men’s 3000m, with junior Brent Leber earning a second place finish with a time of 8:14.67. Senior Zach Israel (8:17.03) and freshman Scott McKenzie (8:42.06) also placed fifth and 10th, respectively. 

Freshman Aislinn McElhaney (3044) and sophomore Taylor Edmundson (2998) placed back-to-back in the pentathlon in sixth and seventh. McElhaney set the school record with her total and broke the school record in the 60m hurdles (9.42 seconds) in the process. 

Junior Jacob Snyder sits in second in the heptathlon standings after the first four events on day one. With three events to go on Saturday, he has 2538 points. 

In the men’s 60m hurdles, senior Randolph Wilkerson (8.47 seconds), Snyder (8.73 seconds), and freshman Justin Perry (8.90 seconds) all qualified for tomorrow’s finals with their prelim times. 

Junior Grant Mason (6.93 seconds), junior Ahmed Amaar (6.96 seconds), and Wilkerson (6.98 seconds) qualified for Saturday’s 60m dash final with their performances today. 

Junior Teanna Jules was just short of qualifying for the finals in women’s 60m, but she still set a school record in the prelims with a time of 7.91 seconds. 

In the distance medley relay, the women’s squad (Maddie Moody, Megan Hyman, Pari Manoogian, and Ayse Allison) took third place in 12:52.19, while the men (Ronald Kigen, Alex Tirado, Josh Tinkle, and Brody Beiler) placed fourth in 10:29.93.
