Softball drops pair of one-run games at top-ranked Kennesaw

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Lipscomb softball team fell 2-1 to Kennesaw State on a bases-loaded, walk-off hit on Saturday afternoon, their second one-run loss to the Owls on the day.

The Lady Bisons (29-13, 8-6) started the game off strong, scoring their lone run in the first inning.

After reaching on a hit-by-pitch, junior Graysen Gladden scored on a single to right from senior Abby Fenichel.  

Kennesaw State (34-14, 12-2) scored a run in the fourth before the walk-off hit in the seventh.

In the fourth inning, Olivia Tamewitz scored after being hit by a pitch and advancing on a ground out, a wild pitch, and an error.

After loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh tied at 1-1, Lauren Bennett singled to center to drive in the game-winning run.

Sophomore Chloe Yeager (7-2) ended her unbeaten streak as a starter for the Lady Bisons at eight games. She allowed just four hits and two walks, dealt four strikeouts, and carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning.

Alley Cutting (13-7) earned the win for the Owls. She pitched five hits, zero walks, and four strikeouts.


GAME ONE: Kennesaw State 3 Lipscomb 2

In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, Kennesaw took an early lead and hung on to win 3-2.

Lipscomb’s first run came off a solo blast from junior Jordan Fortel to right center in the fourth inning.

In the seventh inning, Lipscomb rallied to score another run, but could not get a third. Fenichel notched a single to right, scoring junior Gladden.

The Owls earned their first run in the second inning. After a trio of walks, Jessie Mullen drove in a run with a single.

In the third inning, Patricia Awald hit a two-run homer to give KSU a 3-0 lead.

Junior Mandy Jordan (15-5) went the distance for the Lady Bisons, allowing four hits and four walks in the loss.

Abigail Green (15-5) earned the win for the Owls, giving up five hits and three walks and pitching 10 strikeouts.



  • Fenichel notched her 31st and 32nd RBI of the season. She leads the team.
  • Junior Higgins went 2-3 in game two and Gladden went 2-3 in game one for the only two-hit outings on the day for Lipscomb.
  • Higgins has a team-high 15 multi-hit games on the season.
  • Fenichel and Higgins were the only Lady Bisons to get a hit in both games.
  • Fenichel’s team-best hit streak is at five games after Saturday.
  • Fortel’s team-high reached base streak ended at seven games.


NEXT UP: The Lady Bisons and the Owls will close out the series with game three tomorrow at noon.
