Final Stats

In the volleyball rivalry between Lipscomb University and Tennessee State home has been where the wins have been.

Tuesday night was no different. In the previous four meetings between the two schools Lipscomb had won twice at home and TSU had won twice at home. Lipscomb's Lady Bisons took the lead in the series winning 3-0 (30-21, 30-27 and 30-26).

"We talked about and worked on controlling our side of the net," said Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal. "We focused on the current point. If we messed up we messed up and let it go.

"Tennessee State is a very athletic team. There is no doubt they do some very nice things on the court."

Junior outside hitter Sarah Snider, a transfer from the University of Alabama, finished with a match-high 18 kills, her ninth match high of the season for the Lady Bisons. Senior outside hitter Ashley Cox finished with 10 kills.

Senior libero Ann Mullins posted a match-high 23 digs. Also in double figures in digs were junior defensive specialist Jessica Turner with 11 and freshman setter Stefine Pease with 10.

"If we play the game like we can, and control what we can control, it becomes a game of motions in the sense of execution," Rosenthal said. "We knew we couldn't give TSU extra opportunities. We did a fantastic job of executing plays when we had the opportunity."

Rosenthal started all four of his freshmen in the match with Stefine Pease, Brittany Simmons at defensive specialist, Alex Kelly at middle blocker and Katie Bradley at outside hitter.

"You look out there and say, oh, my goodness, we have four freshmen starting the match,' Rosenthal said. "It says a lot about our team. I am very pleased with what we did and the production we got out of all our players."

The Lady Bisons, who have opened a six-match home stand with the win over TSU, are 6-8. TSU fell to 5-8.
