Women's hoops set for home opener vs Northern Kentucky

NASHVILLE. - The Lipscomb women’s basketball team will be playing their home opener on Friday night as the Northern Kentucky Norse are set to visit Allen Arena. 

Tipoff between the Lady Bisons and Northern Kentucky will take place at 6:30 p.m. in Nashville.

SCOUTING THE NORSE:

  • NKU opened up the 2019-20 season with a 69-62 loss at Eastern Kentucky, followed by a 67-42 loss at home against Saint Louis. 
  • Lipscomb has yet to defeat NKU in six tries. The former ASUN foes last met in Feb. 2015. 
  • Freshman Carissa Garcia leads the Norse in scoring so far this season at 11.5 points per contest. 
  • NKU is shooting just 28 percent from the field as a team in their two games this season. 

 

HERD NOTES: 

  • Lipscomb fell to Jacksonville State in a nail-biter 65-63 on the road on Tuesday afternoon. Dorie Harrison nearly notched a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. 
  • The Lady Bisons opened the 2019-20 season an 82-60 loss at Dayton last week. Newcomers scored 51 of Lipscomb’s 60 points. 
  • Freshman Jalyn Holcomb led Lipscomb with 16 points in the season opener. She added 10 vs JSU. 
  • Casey Collier (12 at Dayton), Sydney Shelton (11 at Dayton), and Keely Morrow (10 at JSU) have all also scored in double-figures so far this season. 
  • Lipscomb returns 10 players, nine of which played last season, including two seniors (Carleigh Short and Emily Kmec), two juniors (Sydney Shelton and Taylor Clark), and six sophomores (Jane Deason, Keely Morrow, Taylor Hammack, Kailey Rosenbaum, Gabi Grillon, and Gracie Simpson).
  • Joining the Lady Bisons are two sophomore transfers (Dorie Harrison from Kentucky and Lindsey Whiteside from Rhodes, head coach Lauren Sumski’s former school) and three freshmen (Casey Collier, Jalyn Holcomb, and Blythe Pearson).
  • Shelton is seeing her first action in the Purple and Gold after sitting out 2018-19 due to transfer rules after her move from Butler. She was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team in 2016-17. 
  • Harrison was deemed immediately eligible after sitting out last season at Kentucky. In 2017-18. She was named a SEC Freshman of the Week and played all 32 games for the Wildcats.
