Women's Tennis rolls Kennesaw State for 6th-straight win

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb women’s tennis earned its sixth straight victory Thursday when it defeated Kennesaw State 6-1 in Nashville.

The win moved the Lady Bisons to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in league action, while KSU fell to 1-13, 0-2.

It was nearly a perfect day for the Purple and Gold as they won a pair of doubles matches and then each of their top five singles pairings. Their only loss was at No. 6 due to an injury.

Lispcomb’s pairings of Vika Dzyuba/Kate Popova and Denise Buberl and Madeleine Brooks each took home a pair of 6-1 victories to give the Lady Bisons the doubles point.

It marked the 10th-straight victory for Dzyuba and Popova after last falling at Alabama on Feb. 10.

In singles play, Dzyuba continued her torrid start to the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court one. She moved to 12-2 with the win.

Popova (6-2, 6-4), Madeleine Brooks (6-2, 6-0) and Buberl (6-2, 6-3) all earned sweeps to give Lipscomb a 5-0 start to the match.

Freshman Liza Diachenko picked up the win at No. 4 in three sets. She opened 6-2 in the first before falling 5-7 in the second. Diachenko sealed the victory 10-4 in the third.

Popova, Diachenko and Buberl have won at least five consecutive matches each.

Lipscomb goes on the road Saturday for an 11 a.m. match against Liberty. It will be the first time the sides have faced one another as conference foes.
