Walker's record weekend earns top honor

MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb junior distance runner Dani Walker has earned her second Atlantic Sun Conference Track Athlete of the Week award after competing in the Hoosiers Hills Invite last weekend.

Walker, a native of Wichita, Kan., set the school-record in the mile in a time of 4:45.33. This beat the previous record by 12 seconds and was 13 seconds faster than the second place finisher. She holds the top time in the A-Sun this season.

Walker also claimed victory in record setting fashion for the distance medley relay team, anchoring the squad that finished in 11:42.47, taking 11 seconds off the school record. Walker’s split of 4:46 helped the Lady Bisons finish more than 20 seconds in front of the silver medalists.

In the final week of the indoor track and field award, Walker joins Gwen Jones of Kennesaw State as the only two-time honoree this season. Jones has won two awards for Field Athlete of the Week.

Lipscomb track and field returns to indoor action for the final time this year  at the A-Sun Championships on Feb. 22 and 23 in Johnson City, Tenn.
