Walker earns initial Outdoor Athlete of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb women’s track and field track junior distance runner Dani Walker has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the first week of the outdoor season.

Walker set a school record in the 800 meter run at the UNF Spring Break Invite last weekend in 2:08.33. Her run not only sets the top-mark in the A-Sun but currently sits as the top-time in the country.

“It is another well-earned honor for Dani,” Bill Tayor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “She has all the talent to be a nationally elite runner, so while her recent performances seem big because she is improving by so much, it isn’t a surprise to me at all.

“Her mind is catching up to her physical ability. If she continues to trust, listen and have fun like this, she will destroy all these great times she is running right now. She is on the very of something gigantic.”

Walker’s athlete of the week comes on the heels of gaining the top-three awards from the indoor season. She earned MVP and Most Outstanding Track Performer at the A-Sun Championships and was named the A-Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year.

This is the fifth career athlete of the week award for Walker and third this season.

The Lipscomb track and field team returns to action Saturday at the Birmingham-Southern Invite in Birmingham, Ala.
