Members of the Lipscomb baseball team have been staying busy this summer as 10 players have spent their time playing in summer collegiate wood bat leagues across the country, ranging from Washington, Pennsylvania to Leesburg, Florida to Chugiak, Alaska. Here is an update for July 23rd.
Three Lipscomb baseball players have been selected for the Sunbelt League All-Star Game, to be played Saturday, July 11 at 5 p.m. at Oglethorpe University. Pitcher Jamie Young and infielders Tyler Brown and Andrew Knell, all of the Brookhaven Bucks, were all selected to the Eastern Division All-Stars.
Former Lipscomb pitcher Nick Andros will head West to continue his baseball career. The southpaw from Tunnell Hill, Illinois signed a free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals and will begin his career in Rookie ball with the Arizona League Royals in Surprise, Arizona.
Mark your calendars for Friday, Oct. 2 as Lipscomb Baseball will host its 2015 Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin. Entry into the tournament is $200 for individuals and $750 for teams of four. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start will follow at 8:30 a.m.
Jorge Gutierrez only played baseball for one year at Lipscomb, but what a year it was. With Gutierrez at shortstop the Bisons won the Atlantic Sun Tournament and then upset Georgia, the host school, in the first game of the NCAA Regional in Athens.
