THE SHORT STORY
Brinkley Kita pitched a five-hit shutout in her first career start, while Maci Cunconan hit the game-winning RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning, to clinch the 1-0 non-conference to open Day 2 of the Lady Bison Classic.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
After three innings of scoreless play, Akron found themselves with three runners on with only one out in the top of the fourth inning, but back-to-back strikeouts by Kita kept the score level at 0-0.
 

 
The Zips again threatened in the top of the fifth inning, but a terrific diving catch by Josey Polk, who also stepped on third base to complete the double play, held Akron scoreless.
 

 
The Bisons finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth as Presley Leebrick singled to right field and later scored on a double down the left-field line by Cunconan to give Lipscomb the 1-0 lead.
 

 
Lipscomb held the Zips to only two hits in the final two at-bats to clinch the non-conference win.
 
Kita earned her first win in the circle as a Bison, allowing only five hits in 7.0 innings of work.
 
Akron's Olivia Otani was credited with the loss in the circle for the Zips, allowing only one earned run on six hits in 5.0 innings of work. Alexa DiFeo did not allow a single hit in 1.0 innings of relief.
 
Leebrick and Polk combined for four hits in five plate appearances to pace the Bisons, while Cunconan and Paulson also registered hits for Lipscomb.

THE SHORT STORY
Indiana scored two first-inning runs, three second-inning runs, two third-inning, and three runs in the top of the sixth to clinch the 10-0 non-conference win in the today's later game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Indiana opened the scoring with two runs on two hits in the top of the first inning and extended their lead to 5-0 with three runs on two hits in the top of the second inning and 7-0 with two runs on three hits in the top of the third inning.
 
Lipscomb threatened in the bottom of the third inning with a pair of singles by Elise Shewmaker and Leebrick, but the Hoosiers were able to obtain the final out to keep their seven-run lead.
 
Indiana closed out their scoring with three runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning to clinch the non-conference win.
 
Emily Yakubowski was credited with the loss in the circle for the Bisons, allowing five earned runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work. Laine Barefoot surrendered five earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of relief.
 
Indiana's Brianna Copeland picked up the win in the circle, allowing only four hits in six innings of work.
 
Shewmaker, Leebrick, Kamrie Rich, and Tori Womack all collected hits for Lipscomb.
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb will close out the Lady Bison Classic tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. against Evansville.
